Introducing the deputies

The President of the House of Deputies has asked each Deputation to provide a photograph of its Deputies.  Those Deputies present at our June 7 meeting “stood and smiled” for the camera.  They are: [left to right] Mr. Mike Clark (Christ Church Cathedral/St. Louis), the Rev. Jason Samuel (Church of the Transfiguration/Lake St. Louis), the Rev. Doris Westfall (St. Matthew’s/Warson Woods), Mr. Jay Kloecker (St. Peter’s/Ladue), Ms. Kathy Dyer (St. Timothy’s/Creve Coeur), the Rev. Dan Appleyard (Emmanuel/Webster Groves), Ms. Lynette Ballard (St. Matthew’s/Warson Woods), Ms. Lisa Fox (Grace/Jefferson City), and the Rev. Tamsen Whistler (Trinity/St. Charles).

God only knows why your faithful scribe was looking upwards.  Anticipation of falling ceiling tiles? looking for guidance from the Holy Spirit? or merely distracted?

Not present were Alternate Deputies Ms. Jeanette Huey (St. Michael & St. George) and Mr. Don Fisher (Christ Church Cathedral).

Invitation to Missourians Visiting GC

On most days during General Convention, the legislative sessions will end at about 6:30 p.m.  The Diocese of Missouri has a suite at the Marriott Downtown (registered in the name of Dan Smith, Canon to the Ordinary), and all Missourians are encouraged to assemble there at about 6:30. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

The Deputies and Bishop Smith will debrief on the day's business.  Members of the ECW Assembly will also be there.  Anyone else from the Diocese of Missouri is also encouraged to join in those discussion sessions--whether you're there as a volunteer or visitor.  We want to welcome all Missourians each evening.  Please come!

If you plan to be at the General Convention, please comment below and let us know when you plan to attend.

Volunteering/Visiting General Convention

The General Convention of the Episcopal Church meets only every three years. Seldom does it meet near St. Louis.  The 2012 General Convention will meet in Indianapolis July 3-12 in Indianapolis – just 4 hours from St. Louis and 6 hours from Jefferson City.  You can participate and experience this “Big Fat Episcopalian Get-Together.” You can observe the legislative sessions of the House of Bishops and House of Deputies, witness the megapalooza that is the Exhibit Hall, testify before legislative committees, and connect with Episcopalians from far and near.

Observations of a New Deputy

Having closely followed the ins and outs of General Convention since 2003, and having closely followed the ruminations of many Deputies on their blogs, I thought I knew just about everything to expect of a new Deputy.  A few things have surprised me.
