Saturday & Sunday

It’s Sunday night, and as you can read from other posts here, our days are long and full.  Yesterday, the day was too full and I was too tired to write for the blog.  Thank you Beth for posting about activities and schedules and for providing links to our friends at home.

Yesterday (Saturday), the legislative sessions seemed bogged down with legislative process.  The highlight of my day was Bishop Curry’s sermon on Harriet Beecher Stowe, Saints and Crazy Christians.  Please take a moment to read it http://www.episcopalchurch.org/notice/general-convention-july-7-sermon-bishop-michael-curry  or, better, watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abJMKeyCWoQ.  Learn more about Harriet Beecher Stowe at http://nationalera.wordpress.com/

After the 2nd legislative session (ending at 6:30 PM),
our diocese hosted an evening gathering with our neighbors, the deputation from West Missouri. Our Bishop’s committee held open hearings and heard testimony on A049 (Authorize Liturgical Resources for Blessing Same-Gender Relationships) from 7–9 PM.   I had Credentials Committee duty until 7:15PM, a short time to drop by the West Missouri gathering and then off to hear the second half of the A049 hearings.  Around 9 PM, it was time to think about dinner.

This morning’s worship included the United Thank Offering ingathering and preaching by the Presiding Bishop on prophets.  Our Diocesan UTO coordinator Rosemary Baggin (Transfiguration) presented UTO offerings from our diocese.  After our legislative session and a quick caucus meeting of Province V to nominate folks for the Presiding Bishop Election Committee, 25 or so of us gathered at a local restaurant for a Missouri dinner with our deputation, ECW delegates, and friends. It was an enjoyable evening.

Tomorrow starts early with Credential’s Committee duty at 7:15 AM.
